WHERE TO FIND THE BEST VEGETARIAN RESTAURANTS IN BATH
Last Updated on 20th October 2025 by Bejal
Bath, England, delivers satirical social commentary through Jane Austen’s novels, leisurely walks in it’s picturesque crescents and the famous Roman Baths, but you may be surprised to learn there are also some wonderful vegetarian restaurants in Bath.
During our 3 day long weekend break in Bath, we managed to eat our way through a range of dining and drinking spots which are vegetarian and vegan friendly. The bonus card here, is that we ensured that they are all centrally located for ease of stumbling back to your accommodation, especially when it was as beautiful as ours, The Queensberry Hotel.

What Food is Bath Known for
Bath has a whole host of local popular foods of which the majority are vegetarian or can be made vegan friendly for those who follow a plant based diet.
- Bath Buns – made from a sweet dough covered in sugar and currants: Where you’ll find them: we tried these when we enjoyed an afternoon tea at The Pump Room Restaurant.
- Bath Oliver Biscuits – these are a type of plain biscuit often eaten with cheese: Where you’ll find them: Visit Bath, suggest heading to Nibbles Cheese in the Guildhall Market.

- Bath soft Cheese – Made entirely by hand, in Kelston, just outside of Bath. We think it’s a little like Brie and is presented in small squares and is rather creamy with a lemony mushroom flavour: Where you’ll find it: Paxton & Whitfield, or in a toastie or sandwich in the Bath Soft Cheese café in Kelston. If like us you love a spot of cheese, then we think you may be up for this one hour small group tour where you can partake in a British Wine & Cheese Tasting Experience in Bath.
- Sally Lunn’s Buns – The number one, must try in Bath and we’ve included more on these later in the article: Where you’ll find them: It has to be Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House & Museum,

A Nod to Local Produce
We thought it was really impressive to see a huge range of eating establishments using many locally sourced and seasonal ingredients featuring smaller plate menus and food cooked to order. Truly a progressive initiative followed by so many showing support for the local farming community as well as consuming great quality produce.

Vegetarian Restaurants in Bath
In this guide we have included restaurants that are exclusively not vegetarian, as well as plant based and vegetarian friendly places so if you are visiting in a group then everyone can be catered for. This also makes it easier to pick a place to dine with clear dietary options.
The Olive Tree
Known for being one of Bath’s longest established independent restaurants, The Olive Tree – located below the individualistic Queensberry Hotel on Russel Street – was awarded its first Michelin Star in 2018. This distinction is in addition to the restaurant’s 3 AA Rosette status.
We absolutely loved our long weekend stay at The Queensbury Hotel and it’s location down a leafy street, one of the main reasons we chose to stay at the Queensberry Hotel was because of it’s Michelin Star restaurant.
We booked months in advance and we’d recommend you do the same to avoid disappointment. Chef Chris Cleghorn and his team ensure the most impeccable dining experience with exceptional vegetarian options. Vegan diets can also be catered for by prior contact with the reservations team.
We opted for the tasting menu at lunch time, a la carte choices are also available, as well as wine pairing options. The menu changes seasonally to suit the availability of ingredients throughout the year to ensure good quality produce are used consistently.

Be-lavie Recommendation: Have a special occasion meal here and opt for the vegetarian tasting menu with wine pairings to go all out!

Sally Lunn’s Eating House
If there is one place you eat when you visit Bath, let it be Sally Lunn’s as THIS is the Bath Constitution and we loved it!!
Legend has it that Sally Lynn, a Huguenot refugee, who arrived in Bath in 1680 and spent her days working in a bakery where she produced the now famous Sally Lunn Bun. The bun is light and fluffy, a little like a mix of bread and cake, almost brioche like and is served with a medley of fillings.
The decor is also very quaint and tea room like with wooden tables, doilies and old world crockery on the tables.
Sally Lunn’s Eating House serves this local favourite as well as afternoon tea, breakfast, lunch and dinner with the menus featuring local and authentic dishes. The building housing Sally Lunns is one of the very oldest houses in Bath with a kitchen museum in the basement, worth a visit. Unfortunately we didn’t have time for this but it shows the original kitchen where Sally Lunn cooked.

Be-lavie Recommendation: We loved tucking into the Brie and cranberry bun for lunch with a cup of tea. It was a perfect combo for a December cold day!

The Pump Room Restaurant
We strongly recommend that you have afternoon tea at The Pump Room, it was something we really wanted to do be in these regal surroundings, that reminded us a little of Bridgerton!
Take a pew in this grand room and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea spread. You’ll be serenaded by The Pump Room’s Trio of resident pianists. The afternoon tea is an exquisite affair with a selection of fine teas, fizz and beautifully made savoury and sweet collection. Think delicious melt in the mouth bread, great fillings with the most pretty pastries. They can cater to vegetarians and vegans as long as you inform them at the time of booking, at which time you do need to make a selection .
During our visit to the Pump Room we even went and tried the hot spa water at the fountain. It contains 43 minerals and has a rather unusual taste, but not unpleasant!
Having afternoon tea at the Pump Room Restaurant is another of Bath’s constitutions and is therefore quite busy so we advise booking well in advance to avoid missing out!

Be-lavie Recommendation: This has to be the vegetarian Jane Austin afternoon tea of course. We visited in December therefore many items had been replaced by festive alternatives. It’s possible to have the afternoon tea with some Fizz, so we would of course suggest upgrading for an extra special occasion.

OAK Restaurant
One of the main reasons that we had to visit OAK Restaurant is because it’s a specialist vegetarian and vegan restaurant and grocer. They serve brunch, lunch coffee and dinner as well as placing a big focus on organic, biodynamic and low interventional ingredients.
After visiting, we can vouch that the veg here not only tastes great but comes from land that has been farmed responsibly. There’s also an impressive wine collection, which comprises wines coming from their small chemical free gardens just outside of Bath.
With an ever changing menu to match the available seasonal produce, we can confidently say that whether you’re opting to dine on their five course tasting menu or pick and mix from a medley of small plates, vegetarians and vegans will be most impressed with the freshest of flavours celebrating humble veggies and fruits!

Be-lavie Recommendation: onion and thyme arancini with crushed peas and garlic, potatoes pave with sauteed mushrooms, and white onion veloute or a delicious soup of the day with crusty sourdough. The wine is also a must! (The menu changes often so these items that we had may not be available, however we’re sure there will be something equally as yummy)!

Comptoir + Cuisine
We became quite vested in the story of this Bistro, especially as it started with four friends who were united by their love for champagne and cheese.
We learnt that the whole ethos of Comptoir + Cuisine is to enjoy the versatility of grower, varieties by independent producers who are passionate in following the traditional methods of artisanal wine making, champagne and cheese, which can most certainly be enjoyed at any time of year!
We think this restaurant is the perfect place for date night or to enjoy an evening with friends, sharing a medley of French inspired small plates, showcasing local produce and the best products France has to offer.

Be-lavie Recommendations: Include the Camembert with garlic and herbs, sweet potato fries with smoked ketchup, Padron peppers, portobello mushroom Stroganoff on toast and end with the fondant chocolate with ice-cream. Sip on one of the many suggested champagnes by the glass! Menus change seasonally in line with growers so expect to sample different options to ours.

Regency Tea Room
For a quintessentially British afternoon tea experience, we suggest you head to the Regency Tea Rooms, and if you fancy dressing up in period gear, ie a bonnet – go for it and live your best Jane Austen life!!
The Regency Tea Rooms are located on the top floor of The Jane Austen Centre, the tea rooms ooze a plethora of period atmosphere vibes, where even the staff are dressed in regency fashion and the menu includes a generous helping of cakes, sandwiches, scones and toasties named after Austen’s novel characters. A nice touch for the Austen fans amongst the crowd!
The tearooms have a few popular favourites, should you wish to oblige, the ‘Tea with Mr Darcy’, ‘Lady’s Afternoon Tea’ and ‘Crawford’s Crumpets’. Unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to visit but took a peek at what they had on offer. A solid reason to return one day soon.

DO NOT MISS We would have loved to combine The Regency Tea Experience with a visit to The Jane Austen Centre, however we ran out of time. The centre has a permanent exhibition of Austen’s life and works complete with a short film. There are lots of interactive activities like dressing in Regency costume and trying your hand at quill writing as well as popping into a visitor shop to buy the all important Austen inspired gifts. Tickets to the centre are grear value for one and it’s a great way to spend a morning or afternoon.
Be-lavie Recommendation: Even though we didn’t have the afternoon tea, I reckon it’s a no brainer here and we saw everyone else who visited, tucking into a fine spread of scones and sandwiches washed down with tea!

The Cornish Bakery
A very familiar stop with many visitors and locals, located across the way from The Pump Room, The Cornish Bakery serves up fantastic treats and anytime snack options including toasties, rarebits, cheese croissants, tortillas, savoury scones, Cornish pasties, viennoiseries and cheese straws.
Oh and the smooth coffee is definitely one to remember here!

Be-lavie Recommendation: The vegetarian Cornish pastry, the almond croissants and Pastel de Nata are pretty darn fine!

Chandos
Pop into Chandos Deli for a coffee and you’ll want to stay to try everything on the deli menu and take most of it home. Seriously this is how we felt when we just popped in for a mid morning coffee stop!
This Italian deli not only makes fantastic coffee but stocks a great range of Italian deli food from hams, cheeses, pastas, sauces and so much more. They also have a great range of sandwiches, pastries, and baked goods to tuck into. One to drop by for lunch or breakfast. We’ll be bookmarking this for a future visit.

Be-lavie Recommendation: Don’t miss the cappuccinos for a mid morning pick me up!

Personally we love a quiet drink so skipped Sub 13 but we did our research and wanted to share it as an option for those who want a more lively night out!

Corkage
Now this is most definitely more our thing….
As well as being an independent wine bar and bottle shop, Corkage is a restaurant specialising in local dishes, especially small plates made from locally sourced produce. Corkage is located just off Queens Street and stocks some of the most exquisite wines from around the world. They also have a pretty cool outside space too!
The menu has a dedicated vegetarian and vegan section with seasonal additions such as arancini with pea & mint, creamed feta & celeriac remoulade, citrus dressing and dahl with red lentil dahl, coconut yoghurt, crispy onions to mention a couple.
Once again, we ran out of time to visit Corkage, but we did research the food and drink here and we have only heard wonderful things about it!
Wine enthusiasts, you won’t want to miss this two and a half hour, small group vineyard, wine tasting and music pairing tour in Corston which is well known for it’s award-winning wines.
