How Many Days To Spend In Jersey?

It is necessary to have some form of Identification as Jersey is part of the common travel area, a valid UK driving licence or British Passport is mandatory to serve as ID options.

What Is The Best Way To Get Around Jersey?

• Car The most flexible way to discover Jersey is by hiring a car and driving. It’s good to note, that in Jersey, you’d drive on the left. The speed limit on the island is 40mph/64km per hour. The island may only be 5 miles long and 9 miles wide but there’s 350 miles of roads which wind between the beautiful fields and farms along the coastline. There are an array of car parks in St Helier and generally payment is via downloading a car parks app. Find a car of your choice to hire in Jersey.
• Taxi On a night out or if you need to reach somewhere by car but don’t drive, consider hiring a taxi. We used Domino Cabs who were punctual, reliable, the drivers were very friendly and accommodating and they got us to our destinations safely ensuring we had our seatbelts on at all times.
• Tour Coach Company We used Jersey Bay Tours for transportation to certain spots like the RIB Boat excursion to St Catherine’s Breakwater, La Mare Vineyard and The war Tunnels, as well as some restaurants. The small tour coaches are comfortable with knowledgable and friendly drivers. You also get a great commentary of the island and its history plus lots of local insider tip from the drivers. It certainly takes the stress out of driving and locating places yourself.

• Buses Jersey has a great network of public buses (operated by Liberty Bus) and are ideal if you don’t fancy driving on your holiday. You’ll find links to timetables in the Visit Jersey website.
• Walking The most sustainable mode of transport is to walk and as Jersey is pretty small, it’s perfect to explore on foot, get lost off the beaten track. There are also many walking routes on the island too.
• Bicycles If you prefer something a little more active, then Jersey island is packed full of great cycle routes which can be dowloaded from Visit Jersey.

St Brelade’s Bay

This bay has a picturesque south facing setting with golden sand sloping gently down to turquoise hued waters. There are some great restaurants and cafes in the area, with the beach being family friendly and with a great range of watersports and activities on offer, including kayak hire, pedal boats, rock pools as well as a banana boat which can be booked around the bay.

St Ouen’s Bay

Hailed as being the longest beach in Jersey and running the whole stretch of the west of the island, locals refer to it as ‘The Five Mile Road’, for the three miles of ‘road’ which consists of golden sand. The beach is said to be one of the best spots to surf as it catches waves from the Atlantic and rarely gets over crowded due to its length.

Rozel Bay

Located in a small fishing port on the north east coast of the island, the low tide exposes a pretty soft white sand beach. Parking in this small bay is very limited but it’s a pretty spot with a few great eateries and a lovely north coastal walk to follow.

Havre Des Pas

Situated on the outskirts of St Helier, a 10 minute walk from The Club Hotel & Spa is the small but popular Havre des Pas beach. Discover The History Of Jersey During German Occupation at The Jersey War Tunnels

One of the most poignant and moving places to visit in Jersey, has to be the 1000 metre network of tunnels dug over 50 metres, deep under the ground by more than 5,000 slave labourers from European nations back in 1811. During World War II, the crown left Jersey with no defences, thus leaving the island to be occupied by German forces. The tunnels tell the harrowing story of 5 years of gruesome occupation with profound stories of the cruelty of the Nazi regime. 

The tunnels now contain a big collection of thought-provoking and educational stories that chart the stories of Jersey’s occupation from resistance, profound starvation and right through to liberation. In 1943 the tunnels were converted into a hospital.

The tunnels are pretty unique and contain a number of different exhibitions, real life stories, interactive galleries, memorabilia as well as Escape Rooms. They’re a must for those with an interest in the deep heritage of Jersey.

A sustainable-focussed vineyard in Jersey

La Mare is a Gold Tourism Gold Standard awarded for its sustainable tourism in Jersey through adhering to 20 specific actions.

The flushing water in the bathrooms on the estate is rain water collected from the roof of the building forming part of La Mare Estates green management practice.

The estate reduces the use of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides in maintaining the vineyards and orchards, card, and glass are recyclable amongst the efforts undertaken at the estate.

These are not only the sustainable initiatives this vineyard in Jersey partakes in. La Mare also uses Jersey Dairy cream and milk for their chocolates and cream liqueurs – keeping things local and fresh is a priority for the estate.

Take A Duck Boat To Elizabeth Castle

St Elizabeth Castle has been defending the island of Jersey for over 400 hundred years and sits proudly on a rocky islet overlooking St Aubin’s Bay close to the centre of St. Helier. When the tide is out it is possible to visit by foot across the causeway or  you can take a return amphibious Duck Boat across. Walk Around St. Helier

St Helier is named after a Belgian hermit who resided on the rocky islet, known as age Hermitage which can be spotted from the harbour. He was thought to have founded a little village in the sand dunes which went on to be called St. Helier.

Located on Jersey’s southern coast, St. Helier is the capital and full of lovely hotels, museums, galleries, shopping (a few chains plus many boutique hotels) as well as great restaurants and bars.

Jersey is on a mission to reduce the amount of single use plastic within the tourism industry as well as locally. Alongside education and the advocation of refillable containers and bottle to eradicate packaging there are also organised beach clean-ups.
